DP Challenge 1
The first challenge was to analyse 100 top rated games for the system of your liking and taking notes on certain aspects such as controls, immersion, and memory. I choose to split the 100 games into the most recent consoles: Xbox, Gamecube, PlayStation 2 and Gameboy Advance. I looked at 25 games for each console.
I thought this was an interesting challenge because it obliged you to look and play games that you might not play any other time. I played Madden games from 2001 all the way through 2005. I had never played Madden before. It also allowed me to discover games that I had previously dismissed, and now want to own because of this (ICO anyone?).
I submitted my final 25 games and was advised by David Perry that i was been the first to complete this challenge. I’ve made available here my research in PDF format. As an extra I also wrote a 6 page paper on some ideal elements that should be included or at least considered when designing a game.
- Xbox – The first 25 games that I submitted. (197kb)
- Gamecube – I found that most of the games high on this list are first or second party. (182kb)
- PlayStation 2 – Plenty of interesting games in here, and sequels (196kb)
- Gameboy Advance – This was different than the other because of the handheld aspects that must be taken in consideration (172kb)
- Discussions on an Ideal Game – A 6 page paper outlining aspects that I believe are important in a game (83kb)
